What is Toastmasters International?
Toastmasters International is the world’s leading organisation for public speaking and communication skills development. Founded in 1924, it now has over 260,000 members in more than 140 countries, all united by a simple idea: that the best way to become a better speaker is to practise in a supportive, structured environment.
Every Toastmasters club follows the same proven programme, giving members a clear pathway to develop their skills at their own pace — from preparing and delivering speeches, to thinking on their feet, to giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Chester Speaking Club – Your Local Toastmasters Group
Chester Speaking Club is a proud member of Toastmasters International and has been helping people find their voice in Chester since 2012. Chartered in April 2018, we are an established, friendly club with a track record of helping members grow — whether they are complete beginners or experienced speakers looking to sharpen their skills.
Our members come from all walks of life: professionals preparing for presentations, individuals building self-confidence, people working towards a wedding speech, and anyone who simply wants to communicate more effectively. What they all have in common is a willingness to learn and a desire to improve — and that is all you need to walk through our door.
Our Meeting Schedule
We meet fortnightly on the first and third Wednesday of each month, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
Our meetings are held at:
Hoole Community Centre
Westminster Road, Chester, CH2 3AP
The venue is fully accessible, has free on-site parking, and free Wi-Fi. It is easy to find — just off the A56 in Hoole, a short drive or bus ride from Chester city centre.
A typical meeting includes prepared speeches, a table topics session (short, off-the-cuff speaking), and a feedback round. Every element is designed to stretch your skills gently while keeping things informal and enjoyable. As one of our club’s favourite sayings goes: “I came to talk but stayed to listen.”
Book a Free Taster Session
The best way to understand what Chester Speaking Club is all about is to come along and see it for yourself. Your first visit is completely free, and there is no pressure to speak if you are not ready — many new visitors simply observe the first time and join in when they feel comfortable.
Spaces at each meeting are limited, so we ask that you book in advance through our Eventbrite page. It only takes a minute, and it guarantees your place.
